Madrid, Nov 16 (EFE).- Andoni Azurmendi was re-elected this Saturday as president of the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA) after the Extraordinary General Assembly held at the LaLiga headquarters and will continue in office at least until 2028.

Azurmendi, who became president of FESBA in October 2020, obtained the majority support of 63 of the 68 assembly members present. In total, he added 44 votes to the 19 of the other candidate, Rodrigo Sanjurjo.

“Of the 1,754 people who made up the census of the Federation, 991 exercised their right to vote. That is, 56.50 percent, which makes these elections the ones with the highest participation in our history and one of the most attended. with respect to other national federations,” said Azurmendi through an official statement released by FESBA.

Furthermore, he explained that his objectives and those of his team will be to continue growing by increasing licenses and competitions, training technicians and referees, obtaining sporting results and “maintaining Spain’s weight in the organization of international events” without forgetting to seniors and para-badminton.

“We face a frenetic end to the year, with Spanish Championships in Oviedo, Lanzarote, Las Torres de Cotillas (Murcia Region), Granollers and El Sauzal (Santa Cruz de Tenerife). In addition, from November 26 to December 8, Ibiza will once again be the epicenter of international badminton, as it will host four top-level competitions: the European Junior Championships, individual and team, the qualifier for the European Team Championship and the Spanish International,” he added.

For Azurmendi, they will all be “very important” events due to the level of organization they entail and the volume and quality of athletes they attract. In addition, he highlighted “the shame” that it is for the Spanish team not to be able to count on Carolina Marín in Ibiza, whom he congratulated on her “recent recognitions.” EFE
