NBA aces Giannis Antetokounmpo and Victor Wembanyama impressed with “high scoring” performances in their games on Wednesday (local time). With 59 points, Antetokounmpo helped the Milwaukee Bucks turn an 18-point deficit into a 127:120 win after overtime at home against the Detroit Pistons. Young star Wembanyama achieved a career-best performance in the San Antonio Spurs’ 139:130 home win against the Washington Wizards.
Antetokounmpo had only collected more NBA points once, last season with 64 points against the Indiana Pacers. For the ninth time in total, he stayed above the 50-point mark. Despite the exceptional performance, the evening almost ended in defeat for the 29-year-old after a foul was called against him at 111:111. The two free throws were missed by the Pistons, which sent the game into overtime.
The 2.24 m long Wembanyama also towered above everyone in terms of sport. At the age of 20 years and 314 days, the Frenchman is the fourth youngest player to score 50 points in a match in the world’s top league. In March he scored 40 points against the New York Knicks.
LeBron James scored 35 points in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 128:123 home win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The 39-year-old achieved his third triple-double in a row with 14 assists and 12 rebounds.
