THE STATEMENTS

Quinn Ellis, Dolomiti Energia Trentino point guard: “I expect a very difficult match between two of the best teams in the championship. It will be an interesting match, we will have to defend with intensity because they attack very well, taking advantage of the talent of Markel Brown, Colbey Ross and the rest of the team. Personally, I have to improve mentally, because when I play with a smile I can give my best and help my teammates. Compared to last year, everything is very different: I have more responsibilities and, as a point guard, I have to have a complete vision of what happens on the pitch.”

Jamion Christian, coach of Pallacanestro Trieste: “We have a group of professionals who know what it takes to perform at a high level, so we will stay focused on that. It was an excellent week of training: very competitive, the boys always raise their level of competitiveness and that’s what’s needed. We have a dressing room that knows how tough the championship is and how high the level is; having a healthy respect for your opponents and understanding that you need to continue to improve is a winning formula for being at your best in the most important moments. First of all, Trento is exceptional in defence, the best in the championship in terms of separation. They share the ball very well, with excellent numbers from that point of view; they have a very high level of talent within the roster and the way they are able to exploit it is truly special. You don’t get to this point in the season without losing a game if you aren’t a quality team with an effective game system, and that’s what I see watching them play. Obviously we want to be at our best every time we have the opportunity to face an opponent like this. The ranking means something right now because it represents the work done. We are striving for something special to achieve at the end of the season and it is very important for us to look at each week as a step towards the final goal; However, it is more important to simply continue to identify the fundamental aspects of being the best team possible and fix the things we are not doing at a high level right now: we need to improve but also have a healthy understanding of what we are doing well. As I always say, the teams we face must beat us without us sinking ourselves, and this happens by understanding what we do well and the challenges we can pose to the opposing team.”
