The last international break is still making its mark – for example with Harry Kane from FC Bayern and Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta.
Munich – FC Bayern fans have happily returned to the Bundesliga. However, striker Harry Kane, the match winner in the win against Augsburg, still argued with his colleagues in the English national team – and thus drew the wrath of Mikel Arteta.
“England comes before the club” – Harry Kane takes his teammates to task
Actually, Kane could be in a good mood. Two comfortable victories against Greece (3:0) and Ireland (5:0) brought the “Three Lions” back to League A of the Nations League. On Friday (November 22nd) of the same week, he scored three more points for his club. However, he was anything but happy about the England squad and found clear words.
Interim coach Lee Carsley, who is currently keeping Thomas Tuchel’s coaching chair warm, had to do without many well-known stars, including Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold. England captain Kane doesn’t want to believe this flood of rejections is a coincidence and accuses his teammates of a lack of work ethic.
That’s why he appealed last but not least to their honor in playing for the England team: “It’s a disgrace. “I don’t like it, if I’m completely honest,” said the 31-year-old. “I think England comes before anything else. England come before the club.”
“Can send an x-ray” – Mikel Arteta defends Bukayo Saka
One person this statement could be particularly aimed at is Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka. He had forgone a trip to the “Three Lions” in order to recover from an injury. However, on Saturday (November 23rd) he was back in the Gunners’ starting eleven in the home game against Nottingham Forest and scored two goals.
When asked about the controversy, his coach stood protectively in front of him and insisted on honest and transparent communication between those responsible: “We are welcome to send an X-ray,” Arteta shot back against the suspicion expressed, “the communication between our medical department and the The English national team was clear at all times.”
Saka is also said to have spent the time during the international matches in slow mode: “He couldn’t do anything at all. He needed time to heal. He did a training session (during the international break).”
It can therefore be assumed that the professionals’ busy schedule during international matches will remain a constant issue. Finally, Joshua Kimmich also expressed his understanding towards professionals who feel at their limits. Dayot Upamecano even suggested drastic measures from the professionals. (that)
