The one born in Unquillo, at that time located in the twenty-fifth position in the ATP ranking, consecrated himself champion after beating the Swiss Roger Federer in the final by 1-6, 6-3 and 6-3. What makes this edition notable and historic is that in the previous instances, Nalbandian beat Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals and Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, respectively.
In the fourth round he faced his compatriot and Olympic medalist Juan Martín del Potro, who was defeated 6-2, 6-4. Thus, he added one title to the 11 he has achieved throughout his successful career.
