Athletes from the region shined at the Araucanía Aysén 2024 Binational Games

11 gold medals, 10 silver and 9 bronze medals were achieved by athletes from the region in the disciplines of athletics, swimming, cycling and judo after their participation in the Araucanía Aysén 2024 Binational Games.

Furthermore, in athletics two athletes from Puerto Montt broke the record in their respective events, these are Klaus Scholz in the 800 and 1500 meter dash and Jesús Veracierta in the 200 meter dash.

Thus, the detail of the gold medals is as follows: in athletics, Klaus Scholz Selman in the 1500 meter dash, with a time of 3 minutes, 54 seconds and 87 hundredths and in the 800 meter dash, with a record of 1 minute, 49 seconds and 10 hundredths; Jesús Vera was successful in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 21 seconds and 27 hundredths, breaking the record from 2004 and also obtained first place in the 400 meter dash; Valentina Sepúlveda in the long jump, Pilar Rodríguez in the 100 and 200 meter dash, in the men’s 4×100 meter dash made up of Francisco Serra, Jesús Veracierta, Martín Verá and Víctor Nail and the ladies of the 4×100 meter dash, which included Pilar Rodríguez, Blanca Morandé, Valentina Sepúlveda and Javiera Ríos and the men’s team in the 4×400 relay men’s meters, where Klaus Scholz, Víctor Nail, Francisco Serra and Jesús Veracierta competed. While in Judo Pamela Maripán achieved first place and a gold medal in the 63 kilo category.

The silver medals went to the athletes Martina Noriega in the 400 meter dash and the 400 meter hurdles, Víctor Nail in the 100 meter dash, Martín Vennekool in the javelin throw, Valentina Sepúlveda in the high jump, the 4×400 relay meters, made up of Blanca Morandé, Martina Noriega, Gretel Scholz and Meli Astete. In swimming, Cristóbal Pérez in the 50 meter Freestyle and the men’s 4 x 50 meter Freestyle relay, made up of Daniel De Angelis, Vicente Binder, Cristóbal Pérez and Martin Romero. In cycling, the men obtained second place in the 20-kilometer team time trial test and Vicente Cárdenas in the 15-kilometer individual time trial test.

Meanwhile, the bronze medals went to the athletes Santiago Montalva in the high jump, Francisco Serra in the 400 meter dash, Martín Vera in the 100 meter dash, Gretel Scholz in the 400 meter hurdles and Diego Ibieta in the 110 meter hurdles. In swimming, Cristóbal Pérez in the 50 meter butterfly, Valentina Vilugrón in the 50 meter freestyle and Vicente Binder in the 50 meter breaststroke and in cycling, the women’s team achieved third place in the 10 kilometer team time trial.

It should be noted that both women’s and men’s athletics obtained first place in the general table of the discipline in the Binational Games of Araucanía Aysén 2024, being the first time that this result has occurred in the 31 years of these Games.

The Regional Director of the IND, Ernesto Villarroel Jaramillo, was accompanying the athletes in the transfer of the regional delegation and encouraging them in each competition, highlighting that after these results the region appears in second place in the medal table, after the Province of Chubut.

As for the other regional teams, women’s cycling was in third position, men’s soccer was in fourth place, women’s basketball in fifth place, men’s cycling was fifth, women’s judo in sixth position, men’s volleyball in seventh place, women’s swimming in seventh place, men’s swimming in eighth place, women’s volleyball in ninth place, men’s basketball in ninth place, women’s soccer in ninth place and men’s judo in position number 11.

Finally, the Los Lagos Region was placed in sixth position in the score table with 148 points, contributed from the participation and achievements obtained by athletes from the different disciplines in competitions.
