Athletics, skateboarding and field tennis brought medals to Risaralda
- The eighth day of the youth sports competitions left Risaralda with 1 silver medal and 4 bronze medals.
Pereira, November 17, 2024. The Risaralda Government Casta de Campeones athletes Samuel Moreno and Yesenia Sánchez gave two new medals to Risaralda in the athletics events at the I National Sports Games, in Armenia.
Samuel Moreno won silver in the 800 meter event with a time of 01:53.62, the second for the 14-star delegation. At the end of the test, the athlete said this: “Thank God I was able to get a silver medal, I had trained hard and well, things went in the best way to get on the podium.”
For her part, Yesenia Sánchez won the bronze medal in the 200 meters event with a time of 24.60. This talented athlete completed two gold medals and one bronze medal in these Games, being one of the most outstanding athletes of these sporting events.
As for field tennis, Risaralda won bronze in men’s doubles with Lucas Velasco and Samuel Heredia, and in mixed with Pablo Robledo and Celeste Orozco.
And in skateboarding, Park mode, in Santa Rosa de Cabal, the protagonist was Laura Zapata, who won the bronze. “It is very satisfying to have achieved this medal and my expectations are to leave my department even higher in the next competitions,” he expressed.
IN OTHER DISCIPLINES
A day with many difficulties was experienced at the Parque Bosque Popular skate park in Manizales due to the rains that affected the track and due to which the competition was suspended for more than three hours, despite that, the Risaralda athletes gave their best in the events held, which were the 500m distance and the 5000m points in the male and female branches.
In the same city, table tennis, the final rounds were played in individual and men’s tennis, all Rirasaldenses reached the round of 32, demonstrating a great competitive level.
In Cali, the first track cycling competitions began in the I National Youth Games, an event that is being held at the Alcides Nieto Patiño Velodrome. On the opening day, Risaralda was present in the team pursuit test, one of the most anticipated of the program, which, in the end, left great emotions.
The Risaraldense team, made up of four young riders, with an average age of 17.5 years, failed to advance to the finals of the competition. Despite their efforts, they did not qualify, but their performance left a positive impression.
YABIÁN ZÚÑIGA, IN BOXING
In boxing, at Expofuturo, in the first fight for Risaralda, Yabián Zúñiga defeated his counterpart from Bogotá Johan Stiven Quevedo by RSC decision (Referee Suspende Combate), ensuring a bronze and with every possibility of fighting for gold.
Already in the second fight for the green department of Colombia Julián Stiven García, he lost by unanimous decision against Carlos Julián Benavides de Nariño.
And in the last fight, Risaraldense Freiner Mosquera lost by unanimous decision to Dylan Sebastián Vega from Norte de Santander.
