A month after the unfortunate episode of violence that occurred in the Madrid derby of the Metropolitano, Atlético announced this Friday the expulsion for life of nine of its partners. Through an extensive statement, the rojiblanco club concludes the investigation into what happened. That September 29, Real Madrid had just taken the lead in the 64th minute with a goal from Eder Militao when the Frente Atlético ultras began to throw lighters and other objects at Thibaut Courtois. The referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer decided to send both teams to the locker room and threatened to suspend the match if the acts of vandalism did not stop. It was then that the cameras reflected the negotiations of captains Koke Resurrección and José María Giménez with the radicals, to whom ‘Cholo’ Simeone asked for “head.” Twenty minutes later the duel was resumed and Atlético tied through Ángel Correa in the last breath.

Those events led to a partial closure of the three-game southern fund and a fine of 45,000 euros. The red and white club appealed the sentence and managed to reduce the penalty to just one match without an audience in that area and a penalty of 3,000 euros. Against Leganés on October 20, there was no audience in the south end.

Furthermore, just three days after Madrid’s visit, “a small group of fans made gestures at the Da Luz stadium in Lisbon that the UEFA Appeal Committee considered racist and discriminatory behavior. For this reason, he sanctioned us with a ban on selling tickets at home for a Champions League match, although conditional on this type of behavior not being repeated during the next year, in addition to a fine of 30,000 euros.

«During this month our Security Department has worked to identify those involved in these events, reviewing all the audiovisual materials at its disposal and in collaboration with the Police, ending this process with the opening of a permanent expulsion file for 9 partners for acts classified in the club’s internal regulations as very serious,” reads the statement.
