Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz surprisingly became the first German doubles team to win the title at the tennis season finale. At the ATP Finals in Turin, the Davis Cup duo beat world number one Marcelo Arévalo and Mate Pavić from El Salvador and Croatia 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (8:6).

Krawietz and Pütz were the first German team in tournament history to reach the semi-finals. The two had previously surprised at the start of the preliminary round against the number one seeded Arévalo and Pavić. As number eight of the year, and therefore the lowest ranked duo in the field, Krawietz and Pütz qualified together for the first time.

There wasn’t a break in the entire final. In the first tiebreak, the Germans took the first round on the first set point. In the second tiebreak, strong returns from Pütz secured important points. After 1:38 hours, the duo converted the second match point.

Krawietz and Pütz continue at the Davis Cup in Malaga. There the German team will meet Canada in the quarterfinals. If they win, they would play in the semi-finals against the winner of the duel between Netherlands and Spain. This would make it possible to meet Spanish world star Rafael Nadal, who will end his career at the Davis Cup finals.
