Fortitudo Pallacanestro is pleased to announce the return of Attilio Caja on the Effe bench!
Fresh from the wonderful sporting year that ended (without the help of good fortune) with the arrival at game 4 of the playoff final, the paths of Attilio Caja and Fortitudo Pallacanestro reunite – a few months apart – to start a new multi-year journey.
Born in Pavia on 20 May 1961, Attilio Caja boasts a long and prolific career in the Italian championship, with more than 700 benches in Serie A. The beginnings in his hometown (1992-1994), were followed by a five-year period with Virtus Roma ( 1994-1999), where he always reached the playoffs, won the title of coach of the year (1996) and reached the semi-finals of the Korac Cup. After a season in Pesaro (in which he reached the playoffs and semi-final of the Italian Cup), he immediately returned to the capital, where he won the Super Cup in 2000 and gained access to the post season. Subsequently, Attilio arrived at Olimpia Milano, once again winning the playoffs of the Italian championship and the quarter-finals of the Eurocup, and then moving to the Napoli bench in the 2004/05 season and in the following year, to that of Roseto, winning the salvation. In October 2007 he returned to the Olimpia Milano bench, reaching the Scudetto semi-final. Following (from 2008 to 2012) the experiences on the benches of Udine, Cremona (where he achieved a difficult salvation), Rimini and again Cremona. In February 2015, he took over and ended the season on the Varese bench, achieving salvation. Having returned to Virtus Roma for a year (2015/16), coach Caja moved to Varese in December 2016 (for a new ‘back to back’), immediately achieving another, difficult salvation, which earned him reconfirmation the following season (2017/18), in which he once again won the title of best coach in Serie A. In the 2018/19 season, again in Varese, he reached the playoffs of the Italian championship and the semi-final of the Fiba Europe Cup. At the end of the four-year period on clay Lombardy, coach Caja arrives in Reggio Emilia (March 2021), with which he obtains a stay in Serie A and then reaches (2021/22 season) the playoff quarter-finals and the final of the Fiba Europe Cup. In the penultimate sporting season (always in Serie A), Caja arrived when the championship began in Scafati, winning 50% of the matches played and leading the Campania club out of the relegation zone, before resigning (February 2023) for personal reasons.
Attilio Caja’s career also includes two experiences with the Italian national team, in both cases at the helm of the National Experimental Team, winning silver in the 1997 Mediterranean Games and then returning to the bench in the three-year period 2013/15.
The absolute guarantees of professionalism, charisma and experience of Attilio Caja will once again become – immediately – fundamental for the continuation of the Fortitudo Flats Service season.
From the entire Fortitudo family: WELCOME BACK AND GOOD WORK, COACH!
