Real League held the 2024 Asia University Basketball Challenge (AUBC) press conference at the Ocean Park Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong on the 29th. The press conference was attended by Real League founder and CEO Jay Lee, Vice President Greg Stolt, and coaches from six teams.
Jay Lee, who left a message of thanks to the six teams, also spoke about the blueprint for the Real League. “College basketball is very popular around the world,” said Jay Lee. AUBC will be a tournament that lays the foundation for Asian basketball and is also preparing to take it to the next level. “If competitions like the AUBC are held consistently, I expect it will be a great help to the development of Hong Kong basketball,” he said.
Real League plans to expand the scale of AUBC through a partnership with the Asian University Sports Federation. A partnership was also established with the Asian University Sports Federation through the press conference. Jay Lee said, “We are very excited to be launching a new university league under a 10-year partnership with the Asian University Sports Federation. He expressed his expectations, saying, “If it is officially approved next year, the real league will also be upgraded.” The next season is likely to be held in the second half of next year.
Coaches representing Korea also expressed their gratitude. Coach Hwang Jun-sam of Konkuk University said, “Thank you for inviting me. The first game was played yesterday (28th), but the players’ physical condition was not 100%. “Still, I had a good game without any injuries.” Yonsei University coach Ho-jin Yoon also said, “I heard that a lot of preparations were made for the invitational competition. I’m looking forward to it. “I hope it will be a good experience for all teams,” he said.
Real League also provided a special time to the teams and officials who participated in AUBC. On the second day of the competition, before the game, we took a cruise tour of Victoria Harbor, which is considered one of the world’s three largest natural harbors.
Jay Lee also used this opportunity to express his gratitude to the staff who are working hard to develop Real League and Asian basketball. Jay Lee said, “I hope you applaud the Real League staff who will change the landscape of college basketball. We will do great things with them. “You can look forward to it,” he said.
It became an unforgettable memory for the players as well. Baek Kyung, a shooter at Konkuk University, said, “This is my first time in Hong Kong. “I imagined a countryside-like scenery, but there were many high-rise buildings and the scenery was impressive,” he said with a laugh.
Meanwhile, Real League has prepared a variety of events other than games on the 30th. In addition to touring Victoria Park, another tourist attraction in Hong Kong, players participating in AUBC will also hold clinics for youth players.
