Australia beats RD 5-0 in Premier 12

To the tune of nine singles that included a home run at the Taipei Tianmu Baseball Stadium, the ninth of Australia beat the Dominican Republic 5-0 in the third match of the Premier 12 group stage in this city.

With this defeat the Dominicans put their record at (1-2) in group B, while Australia (1-1).

The defeat was for the opener Luis Vargaswho in two and a third, hit three singles, scored two runs all earned, issued a walk and left his earned run average at (7.71), the victory for the Australian reliever, Coen Wynne.

Four of the five runs that Australia needed to win were the responsibility of the Australian catcher, Robbie Perkinsin the second inning he hit a two-run home run to open the scoring, again in the fourth he produced an RBI single, in the sixth with a sacrifice fly to center. Australia’s fifth and grave run came in the seventh inning on a fly ball to right field by Darril George, and Timm Kennelly scored from third base. The only single hit by the Dominican squad was by outfielder Ricardo Céspedes in the eighth inning, during yesterday’s game.
