In Austria’s top division there will be a top duel between ASKÖ Traun and Badminton Mödling in the Traun sports center next Sunday. The Lower Austrians are the league leaders due to the full number of points in the first matchday, but the runner-up is still the favorite in front of the home crowd.

At the same time, the reigning champions ASV Pressbaum are visiting UBSC Wolfurt. The Pressbaumers want to build on their opening win against Simmering, while Wolfurt – weakened by the loss of several regular players – is hoping to gain one or two points.

In the third encounter there will be a duel between promoted WAT Simmering and Sportunion Ohlsdorf in Mollardgasse in Vienna. After both clubs had to admit defeat at the start, both are striving for their first win of the new 2024/25 Bundesliga season.

The statements of the clubs:

ASV Pressbaum (Andreas Meinke):
For the second game of the new season, we have a long trip to Vorarlberg on the agenda to meet the UBSC Wolfurt team on Sunday. As was shown on the first matchday, the Wolfurters were able to demand everything from the Traun team with their Indonesian newcomer and almost achieved a point split. We are therefore expecting a difficult away game, especially since we don’t have the entire team available. Nevertheless, we hope for a good performance from all players so that we can take as many points as possible with us to Pressbaum.

UBSC Wolfurt (Michael Vonmetz):
After the unfortunate opening defeat against Traun, an impossible task awaits us with the defending champions and top favorites from Pressbaum. In addition, we have to do without our two best men as they fulfill their obligations in Switzerland. So our goal will be to get at least one point. Achieving the two match wins required will be very difficult anyway. As always, we look forward to the loud support of our fans and try to demand everything from the guests.

ASKÖ Traun (Herbert Koch):
After the away win against UBSC Wolfurt, we are going into the encounter with a lot of self-confidence. Collins Filimon, Wolfgang Gnedt and Kai Niederhuber are competing at international tournaments in Germany and Hungary this week, before the game on Sunday. The rather weak performances in the doubles competitions at the first game in Vorarlberg have to be improved. All three doubles went to the opponent. A good basis for a win should be the strong performances in the individual games. In Wolfurt we won all four singles. The team is looking forward to the first home game of the season and is hoping for vocal support from our fans at the morning pint on Sunday.

Badminton Mödling (Michael Tomic):
A difficult task awaits us on Sunday with the away game in Traun. Nevertheless, we want to take the momentum from the first round with us and – with an almost full squad – we expect an exciting encounter.

WAT Simmering (Martin Kober):
WAT Simmering beat Ohlsdorf 7:1 in the promotion playoff. That gives a lot of confidence for the encounter next Sunday. The clear goal is to win again. I think I have a good chance of winning big again. But that would be the free choice and shouldn’t create any pressure.
