2024 European Junior Championships

From the November 26th to December 5th, 2024 find in Ibiza, Spain 2024 European Junior Championships in badminton. Austria will be taking part in this important youth tournament both in… Team competition as well as in Individual competition be represented by a total of eight talented players.
The Austrian team
For the Team competition were the following seven Athletes nominated (in alphabetical order):
- Pascal Cheng (WHAT Simmering)
- Sarah Dlapka (UBSC Wolfurt)
- Natalia Galova (WHAT Simmering)
- Hanna Gillesberger (Sportunion Ohlsdorf)
- Anja Rumpold (BC Götzis)
- Lorenz Windauer (Sportunion Ohlsdorf)
- Shangzu Zhan (ASKÖ Kelag Carinthia)
Im Individual competition the Austrian squad is through Thomas Wiesler (ATSE Graz) supplemented.
The Austrian team is supported in Ibiza by an experienced support staff:
- Daniel Graßmück (ÖBV youth national coach)
- Andraz Krapez (ÖBV-BJLZ trainer)
- Mike Erhardt (physiotherapist)
Team competition starts on November 26th
In the Group 6 Austria meets the hosts Spaindie Netherlands and England – three strong teams that are among the top nations in European badminton. The first group game is already tomorrow/Tuesday 9:30am against Spain on the program.
Am Wednesday the team is waiting Netherlandsbefore it’s on Thursday in the last group game against England goes.
Challenging starting position
Youth national coach Daniel Graßmück comments on the expectations:
“In the team competition starting tomorrow, we got into an extremely difficult group in which we face three top European nations: England, the Netherlands and Spain! After a preparation marked by injuries and illnesses, we still want to present ourselves at our best, get the most out of every encounter and, if possible, surprise with at least one win!”
Motivated despite difficult preparation
Despite the challenges, the team is looking forward to the upcoming matches with confidence. The European Junior Championships not only offer the opportunity to compete with the best young teams in Europe, but also to gain important experience and demonstrate the potential of Austrian talent.
