The away game at SG Großsolt/Munkbrarup was the expected difficult task for the SC Itzehoe badminton team. Without Sina Lindemann and captain Dirk Kaack, the Störstädter traveled to a significantly stronger opponent compared to the previous season. Since TSV Ladelund withdrew its national league team shortly before the start of the season, several of the North Frisians’ top players moved to SG.
The start of the game was promising for Itzehoer. Paul Schuldt and Ole Beyer started the first men’s doubles furiously and gave their opponents no chance with a score of 21:7. However, the hosts improved considerably after this sleepy start and forced a deciding set, which at 21:19 went just as close as possible to the top doubles of the SCI.
The second men’s doubles and the women’s doubles from Steinburg were less lucky. Kai Hansen and Adrian Nagel lost the first set 21:23 in overtime, while the Itzehoer women’s duo Soltwisch/von Leesen made it even more exciting and only lost 25:27. The second set was a sure win for the hosts, meaning the SCI fell behind for the first time.
There was nothing worth scoring for the Itzehoer individual players in Munkbrarup. After narrowly losing the first set, Paul Schuldt was no longer able to counter the mature game of ex-Ladelunder Samir Halawani in the top singles.
Sonja Soltwisch, who was still somewhat ailing, also lost to her young opponent from Munkbrarup for the first time. Adrian Nagel offered the strongest individual performance of the day in the second men’s singles. But after three intense sets, the SCI youngster narrowly had to admit defeat 21:18 in the final round.
Since Kai Hansen couldn’t find an adequate means against his strong opponent in the third singles, Carlotta von Leesen and Ole Beyer could only provide a little cosmetic result in the mixed doubles. This was achieved with a strong performance to the final score of 2:6.
With now 1:9 points, the Itzehoer are still in the penultimate place in the Landesliga Nord. Next weekend, the Störstädter will welcome the bottom of the table SG TSV Kronshagen/Kieler BC in the Wellenkamp sports hall for a basement duel. You absolutely have to get your first win of the season here if you don’t want to be in acute danger of relegation.
