BADMINTON – THE Indian tandem of Kona Tarun and Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli set up an exciting clash against Dmitriy Panarin and Aisha Zhumabek of Kazakhstan in the mixed doubles final of the Al Sharif Group Bahrain International Series II 2024, powered by Yonex, being played at Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) in Salmaniya.
Tarun and Kudaravalli secured their place following a hard-earned 23-21, 22-20 win over Aljallad Ahmad and Lizabeth Elsa Binu of Syria, while Panarin and Zhumabek beat Evgeni Panev and Gabriela Stoeva of Bulgaria 21-16, 21-13.
In the men’s doubles, the Filipino pair of Christian Bernardo and Alvin Morada will take on Vimalraj Annadurai and Mauryan Kathiravan for their title.
Bernando and Morada beat Goluwa Marakkalage Dinuru Rashmika and Siyath Senaratne of Sri Lanka 21-14, 21-9, while Annadurai and Kathiravan overcame a tough challenge from Ivan Rusev and Iliyan Stoynov of Bulgaria 21-16, 23-21.
On the distaff, Gabriela Stoeva and Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria will take on Mysha Omer Khan and Taabia Khan of the UAE for the women’s doubles crown.
The Stoeva duo beat Wiktoria Dabczynska and Natalia Slobodova of Poland 21-9, 21-8 while the Khans won via walkover against Annanya Pravin Prerana N Shet via walkover.
In the men’s singles, Manraj Singh and Kavin Thangam Kavin will lock horns for the gold medal in an all-Indian affair. Singh overcame Panarin 23-21, 12-21, 23-21 in a heated encounter, while Kavin beat Vishal Vasudevan 21-19, 21-15.
In the women’s singles final, it will be an all-Japanese affair between Nanami Someya and Shiori Ebihara. Someya defeated Dabczynska 21-9, 21-13 while Ebihara beat Ranithma Liyanage 21-13, 21-9.
Today will be the final day of the tournament at BKS.
