Some 1,500 judokas from various communities are playing this weekend for a place in the final of the Spanish Cup in the children and cadet modalities in Barbastro. The Ángel Orús sports hall hosts for the second consecutive year and for the third time this event organized by the Aragonese Judo Federation with the support of the City Council.
This year also there is international participation with judokas from France, Portugal and Andorra. A delegation of Valencian athletes will also compete, who make a great effort not to miss this event.
On Saturday morning the A Cadet Cup was held with 500 judokas and in the afternoon the Spanish Absolute Championship in the North sector, prior to the finals. And on Sunday morning 400 children’s judokas will compete in Cup A.
The Aragonese delegation He has already won several gold, silver and bronze medals on Saturday, which are expected to be added tomorrow in the children’s category.
The event began on Friday morning with a demo class to 320 schoolchildren under the care of the Barbastro judoka resident at the Madrid High Performance Center, Moussa Macalou. The mayor, Fernando Torres, and the Sports Councilor, Francisco Albert, have thanked the involvement of the Barbastro judoka and, also, the commitment of the Aragonese Federation of Judo and Related Sports (FAJYDA) with a city that is hosting the Cup for the third edition. The competition will generate a positive economic impact on local commerce and hospitality that It can reach around 400,000 euros thanks to the 1,300 judokas, 150 coaches and 70 members of the Federation staff who come to the city along with numerous family members. In fact, it is estimated (based on figures from past editions) that around 5,000 people linked in one way or another to the competition will visit the city during those three days. For each of them, an average expense of 100 euros is calculated.
The city’s hotels have, for the most part, posted the full sign this weekend. “We have also managed to fill hotels in Aínsa, Graus, Alquézar, Monzón and Binefarso it is a very good result for the province,” explains Cristina Berrocal, the new president of the Aragonese Federation of Judo and Associated Sports.
