EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO.- A 14-year-old boy lost his life after allegedly being given steroids to improve his performance as a baseball prospect.

This is Ismael Ureña Pérez, who was admitted to a medical center, after he informed his mother about his health when he was training at the Yordy Cabrera Baseball Academy, located in Santo Domingo Este.

According to the newspaper “Diario Libre”, the deceased told his mother, Iris Pérez, that they were “mistreating” him. At the doctor, analyzes confirmed that substances that are injected into horses to improve performance had been applied.

Information that the teenager confirmed and that he had refused to tell his parents.

However, two of Ismael’s brothers, who were also training at the Yordy Cabrera Baseball Academy, have been left with sequelae, such as tachycardia and visual impairment, so their parents, with limited resources, traveled to Santiago de los Caballeros and told the case to lawyer José Orlando Aracena Peña, from the Family Without Violence Foundation (Funfasinvi), who decided to take it on.

It was on Tuesday that they filed a formal complaint with the Santo Domingo Este Prosecutor’s Office against Yordy Cabrera, a former baseball player who directs the academy where the events occurred.
