Basketball: Monaco announces the departure of its coach Sasa Obradovic

Returning to Monaco in December 2021, Sasa Obradovic (55 years old) allowed the principality’s club to dominate French basketball in recent years, notably with two championship titles in 2023 and 2024. But the beautiful story ended this Monday evening , since the Serb left his post after a defeat against Le Mans (74-86) on Sunday. The supporters even whistled and demanded his resignation. After 9 days, Monaco is only 7th in Betclic Élite.

“AS Monaco Basket and Sasa Obradovic have decided to end their collaboration by mutual agreement. Sasa Obradovic has brought rigor and worked tirelessly since the start of this human adventure in December 2021. At the end, two French championship titles (2023, 2024), a Coupe de France (2023), a Final Four “Euroleague (2023), and two playoff qualifications on the European scene (2022, 2024),” the club wrote in a press release.

Aged 38, the Georgian Manuchar Markoishvili, who arrived at the club in 2021, will take over as interim manager. He was one of Sasa Obradovic’s deputies. Pending the appointment of a successor, it is he who should lead the team during the 11th day of the Euroleague on Thursday against Asvel. Monaco is seventh with six wins and four defeats in this competition.
