Joel Embiid hasn’t been on the court for a minute this season. Because he got into a fight with a journalist, the comeback for the Philadelphia 76ers is further delayed. It is now clear how long the center will be closed.
Basketball star Joel Embiid has been suspended for three games by the NBA for physically assaulting a journalist. The North American professional league announced this decision two days after the incident in the dressing room of the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid pushed the Philadelphia Inquirer columnist following the 107:124 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Embiid has not played for the 76ers again since winning the Olympics with the USA in Paris in the summer and was criticized for this by the journalist in an article. Embiid is suffering from knee problems. Embiid was apparently angry because his late brother and his son, who was named after him, were also mentioned in an initial version of the article. He argued with the journalists when the media representatives came into the dressing room to conduct interviews following the game against the Grizzlies, as is usual in US sports.
Embiid’s suspension will take effect from the moment he is healthy and fit to play again, the NBA said in a statement. The Olympic champion will not receive any salary during the ban.
