VEENENDAAL The badminton players of BC ‘t Veen took two points on Saturday against leader Ulftse 2 from Ulft. The score was 2-6 in De Vallei sports hall.
Under the watchful eye of former success coach Wim van de Craats, the home team started well. The men’s doubles with Leon Wegen and Wouter Fondse was immediately the best match of the day with a victory for the men from Veenendaal. After a mediocre first set (15-21), an 18-20 deficit was eliminated in both the second and third sets and after five match points against, victory was achieved on the first match point (22-20 and 23-21 ).
‘t Veen did not come out of this match completely unscathed because Wegen could not continue due to physical problems.
The women’s doubles with Dinja van Haastert and Jamie van Brienen was not the match that was hoped for from Veenendaal’s perspective. Van Haastert and Van Brienen fought for what they were worth and were certainly able to compete well in the second set, but ultimately lost out against a strong women’s doubles (13-21 17-21).
ULFT TAKES DISTANCE
The leaders and women can take office after the doubles and so Ben van Luttikhuizen came on the field and played a beautiful match with enormous intensity. After a very good first set (21-14), things went well for Van Luttikhuizen for a long time, but the strong opponent from Ulft seemed to have a second wind and was able to dominate the game more and more (16-21). The third set was a copy of the second set with varying opportunities and here too it went the way of Ulft’s leader in the end (14-21).
Van Haastert started well in her single, but her opponent was too tough and this single was also lost (14-21 9-21).
Wouter Fondse played the second single and his second match was also a war of attrition. After a somewhat unnecessarily lost first set (18-21), there was recovery in the second (21-16) and a match point in the third at 20-19. This was not for Fondse and he suffered a painful defeat (20-22).
It was Van Brienen’s job to repair the damage and she started her match well (21-13). After this set the pipe was empty and it was noticeable that she had been ill in the past week and so no win was achieved here either (9-21 13-21). Ulft took quite a distance in the singles, the score went from 1-1 to 1-5.
SECOND VEENSE POINT
The mixes were played by Van Luttikhuizen/Van Haastert and Fondse/Van Brienen. The first mixed couple was an occasional couple and that was noticeable. It must also be said that the duo on the other side of the net was very good. They fought for every point but it was not enough for a victory (18-21 13-21).
Van Brienen/Fondse was the only one left with a chance to double their points and got off to a good start (21-17). Too many mistakes were made in the second set, which meant they lost without a chance (13-21). In the deciding set, the Veenian couple was on their toes again and the early lead was not relinquished (21-18).
With these two points won, BC ‘t Veen 1 is now in third place in the fourth division. On Tuesday, November 12, the catch-up match will be against the last number BC Druten 1 and then on Sunday, November 17, the match will be played against BC Gova 2 from Arnhem.
