Belinda Bencic is in the quarter-finals of the ITF75 tournament in Pétange, Luxembourg. After a fierce fight, the Saint-Galloise dominated the Ukrainian Veronika Podrets (WTA 536) 3-6 7-5 6-3.
Podrets, who beat Simona Waltert (173) in the first round, also put the player from Eastern Switzerland, returning from her maternity break, in difficulty. In the third set, Bencic was down 0-2 before recovering.
In the quarter-finals of her second tournament since her return, Bencic will face Russian Maria Timofeeva (143), seeded No. 4.
