De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, San Beda University, and San Sebastian College-Recoletos won the men’s, women’s, and juniors division titles of the NCAA Season 100 badminton tournament, respectively.
Benilde’s Alron Alonzo pulled off a 21-11, 12-21, 21-14 win against San Beda’s Krenz Valena to complete the 2-1 match win and claim the men’s title at the Centro Atletico in Cubao, Quezon City on Thursday.
Michael Garcia delivered the first win for the Taft-based squad as he defeated Mel de Vera, 21-17, 21-14, before San Beda’s Arjay Lazareto and Joaquin Pollentes knotted it up with a 21-14, 21-10 victory against Ronnie Mullet and Troy Oliveros in the doubles.
Alonzo was named as the men’s MVP, while his teammate Oliveros became Freshman of the Year. Jan Renzo Barlinan of San Beda, meanwhile, was Rookie of the Year.
San Sebastian finished third in the men’s tournament.
In the women’s division, San Beda took home the crown with Isabela Dominique Pollentes taking home the MVP plum. San Sebastian finished second with Andrea Villamor getting the Freshman and Rookie of the Year awards, while Mapua placed third.
San Sebastian took home the juniors title, with Zeth Quiambao winning the MVP plum, while San Beda and Colegio de San Juan de Letran finished second and third, respectively. San Beda’s Ron Zacarias was named Rookie of the Year.
