Between the honors there was Harry Potter and judo

“We are very proud of all of our athletes,” said Mayor Ansgar Mertens at the athletes’ ceremony, which took place in the chapter hall of Lüdinghausen Castle.

Talented athletes from Lüdinghausen gathered in the well-filled hall to accept their awards. Christian Schöler from the Lüdinghausen fire department led the ceremony, which lasted around an hour.

String quartet provides the music

However, the celebratory evening did not just consist of Schöler reading out the names of those honored and inviting them to come forward. There was also something to hear and see: the music school’s string quartet was present and performed some classics. These include “Autumn” from “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi, the theme music from “Forrest Gump” and, particularly exciting for the magic fans in attendance, music from the “Harry Potter” film series. Before the award ceremony began, the children properly introduced the evening on cello and violins.

Some people were probably surprised at the blue mats that were laid out in the front area. Attentive viewers were then able to guess the connection. Madeleine Schunck and Tjarven Sichert in judo outfits were also there. And then it started. The chairman of the Lüdinghausen Judo Club explained: “This will give an insight into classic judo.” The young judoka, both equipped with the orange belt, then began to bring each other down in a variety of constellations. Rolls, holds and throws were demonstrated. The spectacular fighting performances were followed by thunderous applause from the spectators. “Crazy!” Christian Schöler also thought.

24 honors

The first honor of the evening was given to Emily Schmidt from the Eriksen Ballet School in Lüdinghausen. She achieved first place in the “Solo Hip Hop” category at the championships in Venlo. However, the 17-year-old could not be present because she is currently doing an internship in Sweden.

Zoe Boldt from Lüdinghausen also achieved first place – although that has less to do with dance. Even though the movements in kickboxing are often reminiscent of a dance. The 14-year-old became German champion of the kickboxing association. The fact that the sport is already much more than a hobby for Zoe is proven by the fact that she took part in the Kickboxing World Cup in Uzbekistan in September.

Bernd Bootsmann became German runner-up in endurance riding. Christian Schöler asked what this sport is all about. You ride between 25 and 160 kilometers on the horse, explained boatswain. The competition horse is regularly examined before, after and even during the course and checked for any illnesses or limitations.
