Biassa returns to the Middle Ages

Biassa returns to the Middle Ages

Dancing, fighting, archery, falconry, ancient crafts, guided tours and much more. The patronal feast of San Martino, the most loved in Biassa, will transform the village into a medieval town on Sunday 10 November, thanks to the initiatives organized by the Pro Loco ‘Together for Biassa’. With something new: in 2024 the celebrations, presented yesterday at the civic palace, will see for the first time the recognition of ‘historical and traditional event’ thanks to its presence in the area for over twenty-five years, which has earned it a contribution from the Liguria Region. “A recognition for the work carried out in recent years by the Pro Loco, but also the importance of the commitment of an entire community in enhancing its traditions, ancient crafts and typical products – declares the mayor Pierluigi Peracchini –; we are convinced that to build the future we must not forget our history and our cultural roots, a precious heritage to be preserved and protected”. The Municipality of La Spezia granted patronage to the initiative.

‘Biassa in the Middle Ages’ will be on stage from 10am to 5pm and will lead visitors on a journey that will wind through the Middle Ages complete with guests, such as the Falconieri della Fortezza association and the flag-wavers of the historical group of Pontremoli. There will be no shortage of play-educational workshops for children, created in collaboration with the civic museums and guided tours organized by the Zoe cooperative until the evening; to enliven the party, the fruit and vegetable market exhibition with the organic group of Piazza Fregoso, the refreshment points of ‘Ostello Tramonti’, the typical medieval foods of the Tutti association, the music of the musical group ‘In vino veritas’, the ‘extemporaneous painting ‘Autumn in the woods’, whose participants will win prizes from the popular jury. Free shuttle service from the Picco stadium is available from 9.30am to 6pm, running every 25 minutes.

And the tourism councilor Maria Grazia Frijia indicates the festival as “a tangible example which has earned important recognition as a historical and traditional event. An event of which we are obviously proud”.
