Rafael Nadal’s career has officially ended for a few days. But he could return to the tennis court again in the future – together with another tennis legend.
A few days after Rafael Nadal’s retirement, rumors are already circulating about the legend’s future. In any case, Roger Federer’s manager Tony Godsick believes “everything is possible”, including a possible record game with Nadal’s long-time friend and rival Federer.
Godsick spoke about a possible direct duel between the two with the aim of setting a new viewership record. “The rivalry between the two on the court was special, but I think the friendship between the two off it is even more special,” said Godsick Mark.
In 2020, the two tennis legends played in front of a record crowd of almost 52,000 spectators. “We like to do big things. If there’s a way to surpass that one day, I’m sure Roger will consider it,” Godsick said.
He named the converted Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid as a possible venue.
Federer and Nadal together at the Laver Cup?
The manager emphasized: “Everything is possible in the future.” He gets along very well with Nadal’s agent Carlos Costa.
There is also talk of being included in the Laver Cup, which Godsick and Federer have organized since 2017. “My dream is that Roger becomes captain and Rafa becomes assistant – and then vice versa.”
Whether this will actually happen one day remains to be seen. Most of the tennis world would undoubtedly be very happy about this.
