The Boston Red Sox’s intention is to get starting pitchers in free agency and they are not going to settle for reaching irrelevant deals. The red-legged leadership train needs to shake up the market and there are two great initiators available.
These are Blake Snell and Max Fried, who are available on the market and negotiations have already begun between both parties. Getting eliminated in the tough American League East gave Boston the motivation to do better in terms of recruiting.
Jeff Passan, a renowned journalist who covers the MLB, revealed in a podcast that negotiations are already underway. The Red Sox want to complement the starting staff, since they have three safe pitchers for it and two that they will have to add.
Brayan Bello, Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford seem to have a place in manager Alex Cora’s rotation in 2025. But we have to find company for them and it would be a dream to have Snell and Fried, although perhaps one of the two would be a positive balance this offseason.
Snell, 32, is coming off a season in which he posted a 5-3 record with a 3.12 ERA in 104.0 innings pitched. The Red Sox could make a 5-year, $158 million contract offer this offseason to the left-hander.
Max Fried, for his part, left a record of 11 wins and 10 losses, with a 3.25 ERA and 166 strikeouts in 174.1 innings pitched with the Atlanta Braves. He also attended the second All-Star Game of his career and is prepared for the challenge of pitching in Boston.
