NBA: Injuries plagued in the first few weeks of the season
Holmgren has played a crucial role in the outstanding start to the season so far. The American averaged over 18 points and 9 rebounds as well as almost 3 blocks for the finals favorite from the West. He also leads the league in defensive win shares (0.9) and is second with a total of 26 blocks behind Spurs super talent Victor Wembanyama (40).
With his loss, Holmgren joins a significant list of stars who were injured last week and will be missed by their teams in the near future. Before Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies and Zion Williamson of the New Orleans were caught on Saturday, Philadelphia’s Tyrese Maxey was already out on Thursday.
On Tuesday it also hit Denver’s Aaron Gordon, San Antonio’s Jeremy Sochan and the Hornets’ Nick Richards. Other stars such as Kawhi Leonard and Kristaps Porzingis are out for the long term anyway, and Joel Embiid’s return is still unclear.
