I Los Angeles Lakers they assigned the rookie Bronny James to their G League affiliate, i South Bay Lakerswhere – as reported by Shams Charania di ESPN – will make his debut Saturday against the Salt Lake City Stars.
James Jr. will be on the first-team roster for Friday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ersand then returned to the South Bay. The organization’s plan, according to Charania’s sources, is to deploy Bronny in home G League games, thus alternating his presence between the NBA and development league.
The Lakers coach JJ Redick confirmed last month that “The idea of having Bronny alternate between the Lakers and the South Bay was always the plan from day one.”
Development in the G League had already been discussed before the Draft between the Lakers and the agent, Rich Paul of the Klutch Sports Group. Sources close to the team reveal that Paul, while preferring a standard contract to a two-waywelcomed the G League opportunity for the young James, deeming it an important step in his growth.
