Swedish hockey player Jonas Ahnelöv once again strengthened the defensive ranks of HC Slovan Bratislava. The 36-year-old defender played 11 matches in the Tipos extraliga last season, scoring three goals and adding four assists.
Ahnelöv was injured in the home match with Liptovský Mikuláš (3:1). At the end of the second period, he suffered an upper body injury that prematurely ended his season. “Jonas Ahnelöv is an extremely experienced defender, a former Swedish national team player. He played steadily at excellent hockey addresses. Last year in Slovan, he had a short but great playing time.
After he recovered from his injury, we had a chance to get him again. We have been looking for this type of player – defender on the market for a long time and that is why we are excited about this choice. We believe that he will help us in the current situation with his experience and improve the organization of the defensive game.” said general manager Lukáš Havlíček for the club website.
Ahnelöv has 79 national team starts. He participated in two World Championships (2014, 2015), won one bronze medal. He also started at the 2018 Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. He will arrive in Bratislava at the end of this week and immediately join the training process. He should play in the next home game on Wednesday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. against Nitra. In Slovan, he will wear the same number 87 as last year.
