Bucaramanga ready to receive South American School Games

‘Cerrito’ official mascot of the contest. The ‘Beautiful City’ is ready to receive the athletes and delegations of the 2024 South American School Games. Bucaramanga is the country’s new sports epicenter, offering a space for competition, cultural exchange and promotion of healthy living.

In the main auditorium of the Metropolitan Aqueduct of Bucaramanga, the presentation and socialization of the XXVIII South American School Games 2024 to take place in the ‘Beautiful City’ took place. More than 2,100 school athletes between 12 and 14 years old will be present in this multi-sport event in the month of December, representing 12 countries in the area.

During the formal event, the official mascot of the contest, “Cerrito”, a frailejón where life, resilience, biodiversity, care of natural ecosystems and the future of life converge, was presented. At the ceremony, the Santander artist Andrés Hernández performed the song that will accompany these school jousts.

Thanks to the commitment assumed by the Ministry of Sports with the General Assembly of CONSUDE, South American Sports Council, held in November 2023 in Santiago de Chile, where the headquarters was granted to Colombia, this event comes to our country, being Bucaramanga the official headquarters.

From December 2 to 8, 2024, boys and girls athletes from 12 delegations from Argentina, Bolivia, Bonaire, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela and Colombia as host venue. Twelve countries that get to participate in chess, athletics, para athletics, basketball, 3×3 basketball, handball, indoor soccer, judo, swimming, para swimming, table tennis and volleyball.

Competition sites

The Athletics events will be held at the Luis Enrique Figueroa Rey stadium; 3×3 Basketball will be held on the San Pio Park courts; Swimming in the pools of the Alfonso López Sports Unit; Table tennis on the courts of the Manuel Enrique Medina Coliseum of the Royal Citadel of Minas.

Likewise, Judo will be held at the headquarters of the UIS Foundation school in Floridablanca; Handball will have its competitions in the coliseum of the Álvaro Gómez Hurtado Sports Unit of the ‘Sweet City’; Chess at the Gabriel Turbay Library, a venue that meets all the requirements demanded by CONSUDE.

Volleyball will have its games at the Coliseum of the Industrial University of Santander; Futsal on the campus of the Santo Tomás University and its Tomas Aquino Coliseum in Piedecuesta. Basketball at the Bicentenario Coliseum.

With this international event, the sports competitions in Bucaramanga come to a close. “For the third time this year, Bucaramanga is once again the epicenter of major events, we must prepare to receive them, because they will be children who come to live a wonderful experience and Bucaramanga has it all,” said the city’s mayor, Jaime Andrés Beltrán. .

Thanks to this sports meeting in Bucaramanga, its economy is reactivated in all sectors, something that will benefit its inhabitants at the beginning of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

It should be noted that the Bucaramanga Youth Sports and Recreation Institute, through its director William Niño, indicated that registration for volunteering at the South American sports event is open.
