Bundesliga: Dieter Hecking is the new coach of VfL Bochum

Dieter Hecking is the new coach of VfL Bochum. The 60-year-old signed a contract with the bottom of the table until the end of the season, as the club announced. Hecking most recently coached Hamburger SV and 1. FC Nürnberg.

Bochum has only one point after nine games this season and a goal difference of 9:29. Only 1. FC Saarbrücken (1963/1964) and SpVgg Greuther Fürth (2021/2022) have been worse in Bundesliga history. The gap to the non-relegation places is seven points.

After the false start to the first half of the season, VfL parted ways with coach Peter Zeidler in October. Markus Feldhoff took over as interim coach and leaves with a devastating record. They lost 5-0 to FC Bayern Munich and 7-2 to Eintracht Frankfurt. Feldhoff will now take on new, “yet to be defined tasks” in the club, VfL announced.

Hecking was sports director at 1. FC Nürnberg until May. His last coaching job in the Bundesliga was some time ago. After the 2018/2019 season he was replaced by Marco Rose in Gladbach. He led VfL Wolfsburg to DFB Cup victory in 2015.
