The WTA Finals got off to a good start for Coco Gauff. She won her opening match in Riyadh against Jessica Pegula on Sunday with 6:3, 6:2.
And as much as her focus is on a possible title locally, Gauff will also look to her home country of the USA. The new US President will be elected there on Tuesday (November 5th). And Gauff wants to encourage people in her age group in particular to take advantage of the opportunity to cast their vote.
“I have already voted,” she explained – in the USA it is possible to cast your vote in the weeks before the actual election day. What Gauff also showed on Instagram. “It is a difficult time for our country at the moment. All I can do is encourage young people in particular to use their voice and vote. Especially in my generation, many people don’t see the power they can exercise through the possibility of voting. I do this.”
She hopes to use her attention to get others to vote – although she modestly explained that there are probably bigger stars who are committed to this.
After her US Open victory last year, Gauff had a brief exchange with Vice President and current presidential candidate Kamala Harris and was very interested in Harris’ story.
