It’s no longer Serie A for both, but how can we not recognize a surplus of value in Cantù-Fortitudo? It’s worth it, and it stands out above all the other challenges. Indeed, there is no match in this year’s A2 that can come close to this match, adding the history, tradition and trophies of the two protagonists on the pitch.
The appointment is for this evening at the PalaFitLine in Desio at 8.45pm and the match will also enjoy television coverage: the match will in fact be broadcast live on RaiSport and streaming on RaiPlay. A gem that Rai could not miss.
«So many memories»
Again for the amarcord moment, this was an important challenge in the top championships of both in Serie A, as coach Brienza recalled: «I was lucky enough to be an assistant in Serie A, when Fortitudo played to win titles with great champions. I don’t have a particular match in my heart, but I have many memories linked to the matches at Pianella and Bologna, made unique by two extraordinary fans. I can’t wait to play it with a warm crowd, on our side, to start again after a defeat.”
But on the pitch, as the Cantù fans well know (and also those of Bologna, equally burned in recent years very stingy with satisfaction), however, there will not be championships and cups, but two first-tier teams who, however, have yet to demonstrate all this season.
A season started a little better by Cantù, a little less well by Fortitudo, who is alternating its fortunes. In this sense, Sunday’s defeat at home against Torino is relevant, a match that Bologna was winning with a lead of 19 points. And in the end he lost.
If it will be a test for Bologna and the former Cantù coach Devis Cagnardi, it will be the same for Cantù. Who, after the winning streak of six games, have lost two in the last three and who will still be without Tyrus McGee, injured. Nothing suggests that the toy has already broken, but it is advisable not to continue Sunday’s defeat in Vigevano.
For coach Brienza, who considers the opponents «one of the greats in the championship, and who has improved the roster by making it deeper», the recipe is simple: «It will take the best possible Cantù and one of the best performances to be up to a opponent like that.”
«Conclusions soon»
No drama for the period the team is experiencing: «We are a quarter of the way through the championship, and it is very early to draw conclusions. At the moment – explains Brienza – the two teams that have changed the least, but have improved the roster, are Rimini and Cividale, both with a very solid nucleus which may have helped them when they played a lot and trained little”.
And so, Cantù brings out courage and quality, which she does not lack: «Defeats are annoying – admits Brienza – but they can be, I say it in quotation marks, part of a path to follow. We shouldn’t have any worries, just a great desire to play a high-level match.”
