Tonight Jesús Cossío died at the age of 82. He was the president of the Territorial Committee of Referees (CTA) of Castilla y León for 19 years, a position from which he left in 2012. His responsibilities were not only limited to the provincial or regional level, but he became a member of the Assembly of the Spanish Basketball Federation for two decades. In the last four years of this stage, he belonged to the FEB referee board of directors.
He started refereeing when he was 25 years old. For more than ten years he coached on the National Second Division fields and in some international matches held in Palencia and Valladolid. At the end of his time as a referee, he became the vice president of the Vallisoletano College of Referees, a position he held for ten years, then he became its president.
The FBCyL regrets the loss of one of the fundamental people in the growth of the federation since its inception and appreciates all the effort and dedication he has put into Castilian-Leonese and national basketball.
