Girl group KATSEYE captivated K-pop fans around the world with a special stage performed with the LA Rams cheerleading team, an American professional football (NFL) team.
KATSEYE (Daniela, Lala, Manon, Megan, Sophia, Yunchae) appeared at the ‘2024 MAMA AWARDS (hereinafter ‘MAMA’) held at the Dolby Theater in LA, USA on the 22nd (Korean time) and released their debut single ‘Debut’ and first EP. They passionately sang the double title song ‘Touch’ of ‘SIS (Soft Is Strong)’.
KATSEYE appeared on stage wearing a costume inspired by the Rams cheerleading uniform and gave a powerful performance. Additionally, they remixed all the songs with drum beats, stadium organs, whistles, and chanting sounds to create excitement.
The sound of ‘Debut’, with its attractive and cheerful rhythm, further heightened the excitement of the scene, and the members’ intense dance breaks matched it, capturing the attention of the audience. KATSEYE reached her peak by collaborating separately and together with the LA Rams cheerleading team on the ‘Touch’ stage. The dynamic yet disciplined group dance made viewers’ shoulders shake, and the audience’s loud cheers to the performance were captured on camera several times.
KATSEYE is a global group that debuted in the United States through the ‘K-pop production system’ through the collaboration of Hive and Geffen Records. Football team cheerleading is one of America’s representative cultures. At ‘MAMA’, which was held for the first time in the United States this year, KATSEYE’s performance with the LA-based football cheerleading team was a good example of the successful fusion of K-pop and local culture.
‘Touch’, released last July, has shown strong support and is consistently loved on major US music charts. ‘Touch’ has been on the charts for 11 and 10 consecutive weeks, respectively, in ‘Global (excluding the US)’ and ‘Global 200’ of Billboard’s latest chart (as of November 23). It has also been listed on the ‘Pop Airplay’ chart for five weeks, which measures local popularity by ranking based on the number of weekly broadcasts on radio stations in the United States.
