Chakib Lachgar and Mireia Guarner have been the big winners of the Behobia – San Sebastián. The athlete from Errenteria has dominated the race from start to finish, scare included, while the Catalan has had to wait for the final kilometers to gain a few meters advantage over Maitane Melero and thus cross the finish line in first position.
In the men’s category, Chakib Lachgar did not take long to take command of the race. And the runner from Errenteria, a great favorite in the men’s category, has quickly distanced himself from his rivals, having barely reached the streets of Irún. After kilometer 5, Chakib was at record pace, with a time of 14:55. Iraitz Arrospide, on the other hand, did not seem to be having a good time in the first kilometers and continued to close the chasing group, which has passed through this first reference with just 15 seconds behind.
The one from Villabona was accompanied in this group of favorites by Carles Montllor, Ander Sagarzazu, Rubén Morales, Gonzalo Fuentes, Diego Méntrida, Andoni Acebedo, Axo Castro and Daniel Álvarez. However, after the first half hour, Chakib’s distance has increased (30:27), while behind, in the chasing group, hostilities began. With just 28 seconds down, there was still a lot to go through.
Of course, Chakib has slowed down a little as he passes through kilometer 15 (46:03), at the height of Pasaia, his lead has decreased at 18 seconds with respect to Rubén Morales (46:22), and at 23 about Iraitz Arrospide’s group. Of course, the one from Villabona has shown his strength in the always demanding peak of Miracruz, where he has taken command of the chasing group and has left alone in search of Chakib. However, his strong pace has not allowed him to get close to that of Errenteria, who has finally imposed himself with authority. Great triumph for Chakib, who thus adds his third ‘txapela’ in the Behobia – San Sebastián.
In women, the main favorites have started in a small group that commanded the Behobia – San Sebastián. After kilometer 5, only six of them were setting the pace with a passing time of 18.24: Maite Arraiza, Marta Bernardi, Ana Llorens, Maitane Melero, Lorena Plano, Mireia Guarner and Marina Bagur. Equality has been maintained until the halfway point, with these six runners passing 10 kilometers in a time of 37:18. Of course, at the height of Pasaia, the unity has been broken and Maitane Melero has starred in a nice one-on-one with Mireia Guarner. However, the Catalan has been much more solid on the climb to the top of Miracruz and there she has closed her victory. The woman from Gipuzkoa was barely able to finish the race in third place, behind Lorena Plano.
Rollers and wheelchair athletes
The San Pedro athlete has achieved victory in the wheelchair category. He did it with authority, with a finish line time of 35:07. Luis Miguel Marquina finished in second position, while Thibaut Benoit finished in third place.
In rollers, Aitor Agorreta took the victory in a close final. He did it with a time of 36:27, with just two seconds ahead of Ximon Villalobos, second place. David Gonzalo finished in third place, with a time of 36:33.
