Champions League: Bayern confident, Leverkusen in the mood to play, the lights are gradually going out at RB
Bayer Leverkusen remains a hot contender for qualification for the round of 16 thanks to the enthusiasm of its national player Florian Wirtz. The German football champions, who have been undefeated in European Cup games in front of their own audience for more than two years, continued their successful home series with a 5-0 (3-0) win against RB Salzburg.
With ten points from five games, the Rhinelanders now have very good prospects of taking part in the playoffs. In addition, two of the remaining three games will take place in the BayArena. In front of 29,211 spectators, the strong Wirtz (8th/foul penalty/30th) as well as Alejandro Grimaldo (11th), Patrik Schick (61st) and Aleix Garcia (72nd) scored the goals for the clearly superior Leverkusen team.
The situation is different at RB Leipzig: The team is facing an early exit from the Champions League. The Bundesliga club also lost 0-1 (0-1) at Inter Milan and, after the fifth defeat in the fifth game of the new league format, only has a minimal chance of making it into the knockout round.
An own goal from defender Castello Lukeba (27th minute) left Leipzig trailing 1-0 against the in-form Milanese at San Siro. After that, RB showed a rebellion, but remained winless in the fifth competitive game in a row. The pressure on coach Marco Rose is likely to become even greater.
