Guardiola disagrees with Bernardo Silva after City defeat

Manchester City only knows bankruptcies as an exception. The 1:4 in the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon is the third in a row. Opinions vary about what that means.
After Manchester City’s third defeat in a row, coach Pep Guardiola contradicted his player Bernado Silva’s assessment. After the 4-1 defeat in the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon, the professional said that City was “a bit in a dark place”. When asked about this at the press conference, the Spanish coach said: “I don’t agree with him. We’re not in a dark place. We played really badly against Bournemouth, but we played really well today.”
City had recently lost in the League Cup against Tottenham Hotspur and in the Premier League against Bournemouth, plus the defeat in Portugal despite a 1-0 lead. Phil Foden had already scored in the fourth minute. “We were close to making the second and third,” argued Guardiola. The team received payment for the missed opportunities through Viktor Gyökeres, who completed a counterattack with the flattering equalizer (38th).
And things got even worse for the guests: First Maxi Araujo scored (46th), then Gyökeres increased the score with a penalty (49th). With his third goal – again from a penalty – the Swede made the final score (81st). Erling Haaland had previously shot a penalty for City onto the crossbar.
The last time City lost three in a row was in 2018
The last time City suffered three defeats in a row was in 2018. “In my seven and a half years at City, I can’t remember three defeats in a row,” Silva said immediately after the game. “We definitely have to look internally at what we’re not doing well and start improving quickly. Otherwise it will be difficult to come back after these defeats,” demanded Silva. Manchester is still in the top third of the Champions League table with seven points. In the Premier League, the team is in second place, two points behind leaders Liverpool FC.
