For treatment of jet lag and sleep disorders… Mild disciplinary action without intention
It was revealed that Iga Sibiontech (Poland), ranked second in the women’s tennis world rankings, was disciplined for doping.
The Women’s Professional Tennis Association (WTA) announced on the 28th (Korean time) that Sibion Tech was suspended for one month by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) for testing positive for a banned substance.
According to ITIA, Sibion Tech tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine (TMZ) in a doping test last August, and was suspended for one month according to regulations the day before (27th).
Trimetazidine is a drug classified as a metabolic modifier and is prohibited for use by all athletes, both in and out of competition.
Unlike performance-enhancing substances classified as stimulants, it does not increase heart rate, but it is considered to help improve endurance and has been designated as a banned substance by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency).
ITIA reported that Sibion Tech took non-prescription drugs manufactured and sold in Poland to treat jet lag and sleep disorders, and that it did not intentionally violate doping regulations, so it only imposed the lightest level of disciplinary action.
Civil Tech also accepted ITIA’s disciplinary action on this day.
He was temporarily suspended from September 12 to October 4, and did not participate in three competitions held during this period. Additionally, any Cincinnati Open prize money received after testing positive will be forfeited.
In the third week of his disciplinary action, Civil Tech appealed and the disciplinary action was temporarily suspended, so he still has 8 days of suspension remaining. His period of disqualification ends on the 4th of next month.
Civion Tech also said on his social networking service (SNS) on the same day, “The positive doping test was shocking and made me anxious. I couldn’t figure out how this result came about. He also expressed his position by saying, “I had a very difficult time.”
WTA also said on this day, “Civion Tech has always shown a strong will to adhere to the principles of fair competition and clean sports. “This incident shows that athletes are having difficulty managing their drug or supplement use,” he said, adding, “We will continue to work closely with athletes and support them in complying with regulations.”
Sibion Tech is a leading player in women’s tennis, having lifted major trophies five times so far. This year, he also won five tournaments, including the French Open.
