Hello!
It is called the badminton method, like the game of racket, and it is an innovative system to reforest deep seabeds that is currently being applied in a project in the waters of Catalonia. This is a very interesting initiative for several reasons. On the one hand, because they are fishermen who are collaborating with scientists to try to recover ecosystems damaged by fishing. And, on the other hand, because the results can help advance the difficult commitment to restore at least 20% of the altered land and sea areas by 2030 in the EU. Well, although the new Nature Restoration Law established this objective a few months ago, the reality is that today it does not know how to achieve this in the sea. Here you can read the report which will appear this Sunday in El País Semanal.

Cali Summit
This Monday, a biodiversity summit began in Cali (Colombia), one of the three United Nations COPs held this year, apart from the one on climate change that begins in a few weeks in Baku (Azerbaijan) and another on drought and desertification that will take place in December in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The Colombian event seeks, among other issues, to implement the historic agreement reached two years ago to try to stop the bleeding of species on the planet. Although the starting point is not very hopeful: only 31 of 196 countries have presented their plans for 2030 against biodiversity loss.

More about biodiversity. Victoria It is one of the loggerhead turtle specimens followed by satellite since the first nest of this species was located in Spanish territory in 2001 on a beach in Vera (Almería). It was marked in 2021 on the Valencian coast and in three years it has traveled 23,473 kilometers. The radio transmitters with which the movements of these animals are followed show some amazing stories.

fires
Although global warming is increasing the risk of fires, it is difficult to link the climate crisis to an increase in the area burned. Until now. A team of scientists from the United Kingdom and Belgium has for the first time estimated the increase in the area burned across the planet; and conclude that climate change increased by 15.8% of the plant surface affected due to the fires between 2003 and 2019.

I just saw the animated movie Black Butterfliess, which opens in cinemas in Spain on December 5, an ambitious documentary work that tells the drama of climate refugees, directed by David Baute and produced by Edmon Roch. It is a harsh film, not suitable for children, with which some of those attending the screening cried. Surely Baute and Roch will not have an easy time competing with the other releases on the billboard, but it is a very brave project that is worth it. Here you can see a previewexclusively, from this Spanish film.
I hope you found it interesting. Until next week.
