Maneuver, cuts to the Municipalities for 100 million
In the long term, the slimming treatment imposed on local authorities will have a rather heavy impact: 4 billion euros in the three-year period. And, in 2025 alone, 140 million will be paid by Municipalities, Provinces and Metropolitan Cities, which will increase to 290 million from 2026 to 2028 and to 490 million in 2029. For the Municipalities alone there are one billion three hundred million in cuts (100 million of which in the Triveneto, of which 80% in Veneto). With Padua and Verona being the municipalities most affected by the cuts. Which are added to the already very heavy ones from last year, and which cannot be considered compensated by the 100 million for the reception of minors and by the partial contribution for the vertical compensation of the equalization, which will benefit only a part of the municipalities and will not compensate however the equalization costs. Conte-Stefani, Salvini’s two-man squad for after Zaia
Perhaps Luca Zaia will be able to reach the twenty-year mark, nipping in the bud any desire for succession in the coalition. More realistically, Parliament’s hostility to the third term will force the president with the most votes in the history of regionalism to give up in 2025, triggering a political equation with two unknowns. Will Brothers of Italy, with a large majority at the polls, give up competing for the flag with their ally? And if so, who will be the League’s candidate? In this regard, the squad imagined by Matteo Salvini includes, in a prominent position, two Po Valley horses: the Paduan deputy Alberto Stefani, regional secretary of the party, recently risen to the top of via Bellerio; and Mario Conte, the popular mayor of Treviso who chairs the Anci of Veneto. These are not rumors or conjectures. The deputy prime minister himself communicated this to those directly involved during confidential conversations. The circumstance threatens to rekindle rivalries and tensions but the emerging couple, at least for the moment, seems to favor confrontation over dueling, so much so that they have started an intense long-distance dialogue.
