concern around Jérémie Beyou, one of the favorites, injured in the knee

The skipper of Charal, injured in the knee, has not been able to give his best for several days while the fight rages at the head of the race.

Saturday at midday, Jérémie Beyou was in a solid 6th place in the Vendée Globe rankings. A rank worthy of his favorite status but which could have been even higher if a knee injury had not handicapped him in recent days. The 48-year-old sailor gave the news aboard his monohull Charal in a video shared this Saturday.

“I’m sorry, I haven’t given much news since leaving the Doldrums and crossing the equator. I have a few little glitches on one knee which are bothering me quite a bit so I can’t do what I want on deck. I’m not too much in attack mode despite myself”he confided concerned.

“The race doctors are with me to find a solution and this morning things are a little better”tried to reassure the three-time winner of the Solitaire du Figaro (2005, 2011 and 2014). Victim of a shock a few days ago, Beyou saw his knee swell and the Vendée Globe doctor placed him on anti-inflammatories, we learned from those close to the navigator. His pain prevents him from being able to move as he would like in his cockpit and on the deck.

Despite this hard blow, Jérémie Beyou wanted to respect the tradition, with a little delay, of thanking Neptune for having welcomed him to the southern hemisphere once he crossed the equator. The navigator therefore popped the cork on his bottle of champagne, watered his boat Charal, poured a few drops into the ocean and took a good sip of the precious beverage before setting off again to attack the South Atlantic. «Let’s go»concluded the skipper who set out to attack the Vendée Globe for the fifth time in his career (best result in 2016-2017, 3rd).
