Convicted of defamation | Rudy Giuliani delivers his Mercedes, but clings to a baseball jersey

(New York) Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, ordered to pay nearly $150 million to two electoral agents he had defamed, agreed to give up his Mercedes and his luxury watches to compensate them, but clings to a collectible baseball jersey, according to his lawyer.

Rudy Giulani played the role of spearhead of the campaign led by the former Republican president to obtain the invalidation of the results of the 2020 presidential election which he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

He was ordered in December 2023 to pay $148 million to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea “Shaye” Moss, two election officials in the key southeastern state of Georgia.

From a video showing the two women passing an object – which turned out to be a mint tablet – during the counting of the ballots, the ex-mayor and ex-prosecutor of New York claimed that they had exchanged a USB key “as if they were doses of heroin or cocaine” to falsify the results.

Last month, a federal judge in New York ordered the former city councilor to forfeit some of his assets to compensate the two women.

These include his New York apartment, a 1980 Mercedes-Benz, jewelry, numerous luxury watches and collectibles, such as a jersey signed by baseball legend Joe DiMaggio.

In a letter to the judge on Friday, his lawyer informed him that Rudy Giuliani began the execution by handing over the watches, a ring and the Mercedes on the same day.

On the other hand, he maintains that certain goods must be exempt from judicial seizure, in particular the baseball jersey.

The lawyer also asks the judge to postpone until January 22, 2025 a trial of his client scheduled for January 16 so that he can attend Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony at age 47.e President of the United States on the 20th, as well as the preparatory events of the preceding days.

Finally, he emphasizes that this compensation results from a criminal conviction which Rudy Giuliani appealed.

The judge who set the amount found Rudy Giuliani guilty of defamation of the two women in August 2023.
