With the adoption of the Act on the performance of student affairs at the end of 2018, among other things, a provision was established that out of the 18 percent of compensation that employers pay in total on students’ net earnings, 0.5 percent of that amount is allocated for projects that will be intended for students and student organizations. Simply put, 0.5 of the annual salary of all student members of SC is allocated for these projects.

– Starting from 2019, Karlovac Student Center has conducted seven public tenders for the allocation of funds and financed over 70 projects in this way. The greatest value of these projects is that they are designed by students themselves or student associations in cooperation with professors as mentors – says Željko Šančić, director of SC Karlovac (in the picture).

The committee for the allocation of funds consists of five members, three of whom are members of the student body, and two members are SC employees.

– As an involved party, we had the opportunity to review and evaluate all the projects submitted so far, and among them there are indeed creative gems that we are happy to remember. This is how panel discussions, creative workshops, sports competitions and sections, pub quizzes, lectures, conferences, study trips and internships, exhibitions, graduate and scientific theses are organized – emphasized Šančić.

– This provision really brought a new dimension from students to students, and gave us as mediators the pleasure of logistically supporting it and channeling it in the right way – adds the director of SC Karlovac.
