Cuba successfully opens tour in Taiwan as preparation for Premier 12 tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 5 (ACN) Cuban baseball team that is preparing to take part at Premier 12 defeated today 6-5 Taiwan Life Along on the Intercontinental Stadium of Taichung, in its first preparatory match on Taiwanese territory.

Cuba, undergoing a stage of competitive modeling, scored eight hits (three less than their opponents) and worked hard to defeat a team belonging to the semi-professional league of that Asian country.

Pitcher Pavel Hernandez worked five innings with only one run allowed to get the credit and Frank Abel Alvarez earned the save by retiring the last three batters.

Andy Vargas could not perform a good rescue by accepting four runs in one inning of work, but relievers Frank Luis Medina and Leodan Reyes stopped the impetus of the opponents and put two runs on the board.

Offensively, Erisbel Arruebarrena (4-2), Lazaro Armenteros (3-2) – the latter with a double – and Andy Cosme (3-1), who brought two teammates to the plate.

Roberto Baldoquin and Yadil Mujica also drove in runs with singles, both 4-1 in the match.

For Wednesday and Thursday, Cubans have scheduled two games at the same venue against the Brother Elephants, a team that recently became champion of the Taiwan Professional League.
