The Dallas Mavericks’ negative streak continues. The team around superstar Luka Dončić suffered its fourth defeat in a row against the weakest NBA team in the West. Maximilian Kleber is returning, but the second top player, Kyrie Irving, is missing.
Even against the weakest team in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks were unable to end their losing streak. The team from Texas lost to the Utah Jazz 113:115 (64:61) and suffered their fourth defeat in a row in the NBA. The last time the Mavericks lost that many games in a row was in March 2023.
Dallas superstar Luka Dončić also couldn’t prevent the defeat despite scoring 37 points. Doncic was without his co-star Kyrie Irving, who is suffering from a shoulder injury. The German basketball player Maxi Kleber was in the Mavericks’ starting lineup for the first time in his third appearance of the season, but failed to score three points in 17 minutes of action.
The Mavericks lost the third quarter 21:38 and entered the final period with a 14-point deficit. But the guests managed the comeback, former Warriors star Klay Thompson equalized the game with a three-pointer 27 seconds before the end of the game. In return, John Collins (28 points) scored the winning goal for the Jazz with a dunk. The hosts achieved their first home win of the season.
The night before, Victor Wembanyama made NBA history again. With his new career best in his San Antonio Spurs’ 139:130 win against the Washington Wizards, the 20-year-old Frenchman became the fourth-youngest player to reach the 50-point mark. The only younger players so far have been Brandon Jennings, LeBron James and Devin Booker, all of whom were also 20 years old when they cracked 50 points.
