Saturday evening, we were treated to a surprise: David Savard did not play.
However, he had participated in morning training a few hours before. And even though we know that he is more prone to injury (he is a veteran who puts his body at the service of the team) than the others, there were no clues for that evening.
We just know that the upper body was involved.
Yesterday, Savard was not able to practice due to his upper body injury, but this morning, the veteran is on the ice at the Bell Center on the sidelines of today’s practice.
And in the end, he will take Justin Barron’s place tonight.
David Savard takes part in the Canadiens’ morning workout at the Bell Center this morning. We’ll see if he’ll be able to face the Oilers tonight.

It should be noted that Savard is not the only player we monitored on the sidelines of training. Guys like Rafaël Harvey-Pinard and Patrik Laine, who are progressing towards a return to play, are also under people’s microscope.
And once again, both were on the ice this morning.
Patrik Laine and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard are also on the ice again this morning. In Laine’s case, training focused on changes of direction and shooting precision with Adam Nicholas.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re 100%, obviously. But in the last days, they also trained. They are therefore progressing well towards a return to play, which is good news.
It’s better than the other way around, anyway.
It remains to be seen, in the case of the Quebecer, if he will be handed over to the Rocket to return to form for a few matches. It’s a possibility on the table – and as a guy who covers baseball, I find it very normal, as a procedure.
Note also that Samuel Montembeault will be in front of the CH net this evening, against the Oilers.
In burst
– Fourth trio: it starts again for Ivan Demidov.
Ivan Demidov had a yellow practice jersey today, so he’s been demoted to the 4th line again by Roman Rotenberg.
