Neu-Anspach (jf). The preliminary round of the 2024/25 season in the Badminton Oberliga Mitte ends with a trip to Thuringia at the weekend for SG Anspach. On the last double match day of the year, team leader Ingo Waltermann’s team will be playing at OTG Gera on Saturday at 5 p.m. and at SV GuthsMuths Jena III on Sunday at 10 a.m.

“A point in Gera is our goal because we want to defend our lead in the table,” says department head Alexander Merget, emphasizing the difficulty of the task on Saturday in the Panndorfhalle.

In the current table, regional league relegated Anspach is at the top with a flawless 10:0 points, followed by Gera with 8:2 points.

Since Juliane Köppen, Kirsten Helwig, Stefanie Lambertz and Heike Löhr cannot be used for a variety of reasons, the second “women’s place” alongside the Danish European champion Janne Vang Nielsen is vacant. “We may take Elaine Luft and another player with us,” according to Merget, no decision has been made yet.

For the men, the quartet of Arnd Vetters, Steffen Hornig, Alexander Merget and Ingo Waltermann practically line up themselves, as Jan-Lennard Hay is not available at the weekend for personal reasons.

Since Sunday’s opponent SV GuthsMuths Jena III only has one point after five match days and is therefore bottom of the table, the setback athletes from the cloverleaf city have firmly planned for the two points in the preliminary round final.

The Christmas holidays and break will then begin in the Badminton Oberliga Mitte.

At the start of the second half of the season, SG Anspach is expecting TV Hofheim II for the derby in the sports hall of the Adolf Reichwein School on January 19, 2025 at 2 p.m.
