The former Boston, Seattle, Cleveland and Dallas guard suffers from psychiatric disorders and is addicted to alcohol and drugs. At 41, Delonte West is reduced to poverty after earning over 16 million dollars in the NBA
Ha earned 16 million dollars in his career — the equivalent of 15 million euros — for playing eight seasons in the NBAma Delonte West he now seems to live in a world of his own, disconnected from reality and in conditions of poverty (although he himself denied them). Your arrests they are no longer counted. The last one on November 2nd last, when he was stopped for trespass dal Fairfax County Police Department, in Virginia. First at resistance to agentsfor evading probation, then the emergency admission to hospital for having collapsed suddenly on the ground.
Mental disorders and various addictions
The 41-year-old former guard for Boston, Seattle, Cleveland and Dallas suffers from mental disorders and addiction to alcohol and substances which worsened his health conditions over time. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was still playing, in 2008but between judicial and human misadventures, the former player has recently captured the attention of the media several times for the degradation in which he lives, despite being the father of two children and having a wife to whom he is still married, Caressa. However, no one knows what the current relationship with her and the rest of the family is like.
The mug shot and the rehab attempts
In the mugshot of his June arrest, the last one before this one, again in Fairfax, he is almost unrecognizable compared to 2012, the year in which he played his last match in the major stars and stripes tournament, at the age of 28. Golden years marked by an average of 9.7 points, 3.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds in 432 matches played, numbers that are now just a distant memory. During this period, like many of his colleagues, he was able to earn a fortune, which makes his current conditions even more inexplicable. Recently, even the owner of the Mavericks, Mark Cuban, worried about his health, tried to help him and pay for treatment at a rehabilitation center, but was unable to do so.
The precedents
Thus West has repeatedly ended up in the newspapers for his troubles with the law. Several episodes and small crimesbefore entering a private area near a Huntington Metro station. In June, police officers gave him a dose of naloxone for an overdose of opioids and they have revived after seeing him lose consciousness in the street.
On another occasion his silhouette was captured on video while he staggered into a parking lot in Arlington, also in Virginia. In yet another, this time in Florida, the former player had knocked on the doors of the Boynton Beach police headquarters, but was not in himself. In one hand he held an open can of beer, in the other a bottle of vodka. These are just a few examples, because the list of reports is long. Once he was reported for disorderly drunkenness and resisting a public official, once stopped because he asked for alms at traffic lights and in another because he was begging in front of a supermarket. Not even a shadow of his luck although, in this last case, already the following day, November 3, it was released on $1,000 bail. The trial is scheduled for January, yet another trial that alone will not be enough to get him out of the dark tunnel in which he ended up.
